Savour the best of Italian Gastronomy at Gusto Italiano

Singapore, 12 August– From September 1 to October 3, a whole new Italian gastronomical odyssey awaits sophisticated diners who enjoy the finer things in life.

Italian gastronomy has been gaining popularity in Singapore as diners move from the traditional pastas and pizzas to other different Italian cuisines in the diverse regions of Italy. Recognising the widespread influence of Italian cuisine in Singapore, the inaugural Gusto Italiano will celebrate and showcase the food, culinary talents and produce of Italy in new and exciting ways. The festivities will feature outstanding local culinary stars and bring together renowned Italian restaurants and F&B establishments from across the island.

As part of the exciting line up of Gusto Italiano, there will be EATaly dining promotions wherea selection of Italian restaurants across Singapore will be providing dining offers on their ala carte menu items to fans of Italian cuisine all year long.

Organised by Sphere Exhibits Pte Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Singapore Press Holdings Ltd (SPH) together with presenting partner The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited (HSBC), Gusto Italiano will satisfy gourmand’s curiosity and palates through this gastronomical festival with exquisite flavours and pairings.

Gastronomic adventure across the Italian regions

Embark on a culinary journey where diners get to experience the art of Italian cuisine across the various regions. With each dinner featuring the flavours of a specific region in terms of cuisine and exquisite wine pairings, travel the Italian regions with Gusto Italiano.

At “The Romance of Venice with the wines of Santa Sofia” on 5 September at OTTO Ristorante, diners will be taken on a gastronomic journey to the region of Veneto, home of Chef Michele Pavanello. Expect to indulge in signature creations that best encapsulate the flavours of this region. The dinner will be paired with fine wines of Santa Sofia, namely Soave, Valpolicella, Ripasso, Amarone and Recioto. Guests will be provided with the unparalleled “Otto experience”.

“Sunkissed Sicily with the wines of Donnafugata” on 6 September at Dolce Vita, Mandarin Oriental Singapore focuses on the produce from the South of Italy, Sicily. Chef Johnny Meitei will take diners through a six course dinner that will be paired with the award winning wines of Donnafugata. Prior to joining Dolce Vita, Chef Johnny was appointed Sous Chef at Saint Pierre, Singapore, helmed by celebrity owner chef Emmanuel Stroobant. Guests can choose to eat al-fresco at the patio by the pool, with tantalising glimpse of the Singapore skyline in the distance.

Celebrating the cuisine of his home region, Beppe de Vito will take diners through a palatable experience to his home region, Puglia. “Gifts of the Forest with the wines of Fontodi”, on 11 September at ilLido will showcase the exquisite menu prepared with a range of ingredients that have been freshly foraged from the forest and specially flown in for this dinner. The highly regarded wines of Fontodi offers the perfect complement to an evening that showcases the best that Mother Nature has to offer.

On 13 September, Executive Chef Sandro Falbo will offer diners a haute Tuscan menu that focuses on the basic and original flavours of this glorious region at the “Tuscany Unplugged with the wines of Casanova di Neri” at The Lighthouse, The Fullerton Hotel Singapore. Set amidst the stunning views of Marina Bay, the evening’s menu will be complimented by the wines of the famed Brunello producer Casanova di Neri, which are highly rated and sought after by afcianados all over the world.

For a celebration of food in true carnival style of Tuscan cuisine, head down to Burlamacco Ristorante on 18 September for “San Felice Wine Dinner”. Chef Gabriele Piegaia will present a delectable 5-course menu, rich with Tuscan flavours from traditional recipes passed down from generations. Complimenting this menu are the wines from one of Tuscany’s award winning wineries, San Felice.

Forlino will be hosting an exclusive dinner “The Flavours of Sardegna with the wines of Agriolas” on 17 September. The focus for this dinner is on the flavours of the relatively unknown and rustic island of Sardegna in the south of Italy. Chef Kentaro Torii spent several years in Sardegna and immersed himself in the local culture and flavours unique to the island. Being a top Japanese Chef, Chef Kentaro will showcase a special menu with a keen eye for detail. His creations will be paired with the exquisite wines of Argiolas. One of the key highlights will be Turrigga which is highly sought after and is considered to be the Sassicaia of the south.

Serving up signature Italian produce

The soul of any cuisine is often determined by the produce used. Together with the skills of the leading chefs, enjoy the best as Gusto Italiano serves up signature Italian produce across 4 dinner events.

On 10 September, Chef Diego Chiarini will take centre stage to showcase the flavours of Truffles and Barolo with his signature creations. To be held atOSO Ristorante, wineries like Cavallotto, Matteo Correggia and Bruno Rocca will be featuring their wines which will span Dolcetto, Barbera, Barbaresco and Barolo. Chef Diego has worked in some of the world’s leading restaurants, including Bice, located in the Tokyo Four Seasons Hotel, which has been voted one of the ten best Italian restaurants in the world.

Head down to Garibaldi Italian Restaurant and Bar on 12 September for an unforgettable “A Wild Game Dinner with the wines of Petrolo”. Chef Roberto Galetti will feature dishes from heirloom wild game recipes. Complementing these rich flavours are the wines from the Super Tuscan winery of Petrolo which will be showcasing their flagship wines of Galatrona and Torrione.

Chef Omar Bernardi will present “A Caviar and Franciacorta Dinner” on 19 September at il Cielo, Hilton Singapore. Signature creations which are generously laced with four varieties of Calvisius caviar will be showcased by Chef Omar. Complementing these creations are the Franciacortas from La Valle. This is a must-go for fans of caviar. Chef Omar’s previous employment includes a 2-star Michelin restaurant, San Domenico Ristorante in Imola.

The Fullerton Hotel Singapore will play host to five of the city’s leading Italian Chefs on 25 September at the “Classic Fine Foods presents The Best of Italy Dinner”. Chef Michele Pavanello from OTTO Ristorante, Chef Kentaro Torii from Forlino, Chef Diego Chiarini from OSO Ristorante, Chef Sandro Falbo from The Fullerton Hotel Singapore and Chef Denis Lucchi from Buona Terra will each feature one course paired with exquisite wines from the portfolio of Italian Food & Wine. The highly anticipated event will showcase a rare combination of Italy’s best not to be missed.

The “Rosso Cioccolato Dinner” is a must-go for chocolate lovers. To be held on 3 October at Basilico, Regent Singapore, the Amedei Chocolate takes centre stage at this dinner. Touted as the world’s best chocolate, the gifted culinary team of The Regent Singapore led by Chef Simone Cerea will take diners on a chocolate odessy paired with a selection of wines that have been specially curated to complement each dish perfectly.

Casual Italian Indulgences

For a more casual take on Italian cuisine, there will be 3 events of casual Italian dinners, soiree and workshops featuring a wide variety of casual Italian cuisine style.

Unwind with a casual evening of good company at the “Campari Twist”, featuring delectable Italian canapes and one of Italy’s most popular beverages, Campari, which can be enjoyed the classic way with soda, juice or “with a twist” in cocktails. In the elegant yet relaxing setting of The Landing Point, let the day’s stresses melt away with conversation, laughter and some delectable morsels on 24 September.

For participants who enjoy cooking Italian cuisine, “Flavours of Italy Culinary Workshops” offer the ideal opportunity to learn from eight of Singapore’s leading Italian chefs. They will share their expertise in the comfort of the well-equipped ToTT Cooking Studio. There will be four demonstrations per day, each lasting an hour, and will take place on 21- 22 September.

Fans of pizza can look forward to a fun evening at “Pizza Pizza!” held at Pete’s Place, Grand Hyatt Singapore from 6 - 8 September. There will be at least 15 varieties of pizza to choose from, and just for kids, they will get to create their very own pizza. To end the evening on a sweet note, a spread of Italian dessert awaits. The atmosphere at Pete’s place is lively and friendly, exudes the warmth of a home, which makes it an ideal venue for a family get-together.
